The application instructions for the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral Research Award now show a direct application deadline of October 19 and revised deadline handling by submission channel. The submission flow was also reworked for sponsor requests, signature pages, consent, and ResearchNet submission, with updated required and optional attachments including a new Indigenous attestation and revised transcript/timeline forms. The instructions also add routing guidance that affects who submits where, including quota versus direct-to-CIHR submission paths and some applicant categories. Separately, the CIHR quotas page was updated for the 2026-2027 cycle, with institution-level allocations changing for several organizations.

Who is eligible?
- Students pursuing a PhD degree in a health-related field in Canada or abroad
Who is not eligible
- Applicants who are not enrolled in their doctoral program of study at an eligible Canadian institution at the time of application
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Projects focusing on the use of computational biology tools rather than their development will not be deemed eligible for this Priority Announcement.

How to apply
- Prepare and submit the application using ResearchNet in either official language.
- Preview all elements of the application before sending it to make sure it is complete.
- Complete the Consent and Submit task in ResearchNet before the application can be accepted.
Processing and Agreement
- No changes or updates can be made to an application after it has been submitted to CIHR (either before or after the deadline).
- Any information that is not required or exceeds the page/character limits will be removed from the application prior to peer review without notification.
- CIHR-IA Institute team will contact the funded recipient to request a plain language written summary of their research project.
- The NPA will be required to submit a final report within one (1) month following the end of the award.
