Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Costs for eligible energy-efficiency or sustainability upgrades

  • Projects on properties already receiving another District tax exemption

Selection criteria

  • Project must meet the minimum construction value requirement.

How to apply

    • Secure required building and other permits.
  • Step 2: Complete the approved improvements.

    • Complete the application form and proof of improvements form.
    • Include the signed agreement, assessment notice, tax certificate, permits, title search, and before-and-after photos.
    • Submit by email, in person at Municipal Hall, or by mail to the District of Kitimat.
  • Step 4: Receive the tax exemption certificate.
    • The Director of Finance issues the certificate if approved.
    • The certificate is registered through BC Assessment and applies the following year.

  • Applications are reviewed after submission with the required supporting documents.
  • The Director of Finance issues the Tax Exemption Certificate if approved.
  • The certificate is registered through BC Assessment and becomes effective the following year.
  • The exemption may be cancelled if conditions are not maintained or requirements are breached.
