Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Homeowners and residential tenants
  • Small businesses, including farms and fishers
  • Non-profit organizations, churches, charities, and service clubs
  • Municipalities and provincial departments, when federal disaster funding applies

Who is not eligible

  • Recreational properties
  • Businesses outside the small business definition
  • Properties with damage caused by negligence
  • Properties in certain high-risk flood zones or with recurrent erosion, where excluded by the program

Eligible expenses

  • Basic necessities and structural damages for individuals.
  • Contents covered as per the Schedule of Loss.
  • Buildings, inventory, equipment and furnishings for eligible not-for-profit organizations, farms and small businesses.
  • Structural damages, lost contents essential to the nature of the business and inventory for small businesses, including farmers and fishers.
  • Water testing, electrical reconnections, and health and safety inspections for safe home re-entry.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Report damage
    • Register property damage online or by phone.
    • Contact your insurer immediately.
  • Step 2: Complete forms
    • Fill out the correct application package for your applicant type.
    • Complete the insurance confirmation form if required.
  • Step 3: Gather supporting documents
    • Prepare the required appendices, photos, and supporting records.
    • Keep copies of your application and documents.
  • Step 4: Submit the application
    • Mail the completed application and documents to NB EMO Recovery Services in Fredericton.

Processing and Agreement

  • The claim is reviewed for eligibility after submission.
  • An external damage assessor may inspect the property.
  • The file is checked by the recovery office and a provincial auditor.
  • Payment is issued after review, and the applicant may receive a decision letter.
  • If the applicant disagrees, a claim settlement review can be requested in writing.
