Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Researchers affiliated with eligible Canadian postsecondary institutions
- Research teams with one applicant and co-applicants or collaborators
- Canadian and international co-applicants from eligible organizations
- Collaborators from the private sector or federal government
Who is not eligible
- Postdoctoral researchers as applicants or co-applicants
- Students as applicants or co-applicants
- Researchers whose primary affiliation is with a non-Canadian postsecondary institution
- Individuals from the private sector or federal government as applicants or co-applicants
Eligible expenses
- Student salaries or stipends
- Travel and subsistence costs
- Professional and technical consulting services
- Supplies directly related to the project
- Computer hardware or other equipment not provided by the institution
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Research activities such as literature reviews, field work, data collection, and interviews when they are the main project purpose.
- Remuneration of team members, including postdoctoral fellows serving on the team.
- Salaries or stipends for people already eligible to hold a SSHRC grant.
- Course release time for research activities.
Processing and Agreement
- Eligible applications enter a randomized selection process.
- Applications are assigned random numbers and selected until funds are exhausted.
- Results are communicated to applicants and institutions through SSHRC portals.
- Successful applicants must comply with SSHRC regulations and financial policies.
