Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Domestic and foreign non-profit organizations.
  • Public and private institutions.
  • Colleges, universities, hospitals, and laboratories.
  • State, local, and federal government entities.

Who is not eligible

  • Facebook employees and employees of Facebook subsidiaries.
  • Applications involving activities in OFAC-sanctioned countries.
  • Applicants for this award who are also applying for the Ben Barres Early Career Acceleration Award.

Eligible expenses

  • Research activities directly related to the project.
  • Travel for investigator meetings and network-related meetings.
  • Indirect costs up to the allowed limit.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Translational or clinical development projects as the main focus.
  • Activities in OFAC-sanctioned countries.
  • Applications from Facebook employees or subsidiaries.

  • Quality of the proposal, expertise, and collaborative capacity.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Submit Letter of Intent
    • Complete the LOI for the collaborative group.
    • Submit it through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative online grants portal.
  • Step 2: Await Invitation to Full Application
    • Selected groups are notified and invited to continue.
  • Step 3: Submit Full Proposal
    • Prepare and upload the full application in the online portal.
    • Include the required proposal, budget, biosketches, and approval form.
  • Step 4: Participate in Interview if Invited
    • Finalists attend an in-person interview in the Bay Area.

  • Selected applicants are invited to submit a full proposal.

  • Final decisions are made by CZI staff with scientific advisors.
