Who is eligible?
- Property owners of commercial, industrial, institutional, and apartment buildings with more than four units.
- Properties notified by the Municipality of East Hants under the retrofit program.
Eligible expenses
- Purchasing, installing and testing the device
How to apply
- Complete the Application for Backflow Prevention Device - Retrofit.
- Include the required drawing showing the location and orientation of the proposed backflow prevention device.
- Email the application and drawings to water@easthants.ca or deliver them to 230-15 Commerce Court, Elmsdale, NS B2S 3K5 c/o The Cross Connection Control (CCC) Program.
Processing and Agreement
- The Municipality will contact affected property owners by mail and provide the appropriate information and deadlines.
- Backflow Prevention Devices must be tested upon installation and annually thereafter by a certified tester.
- If the assembly fails its test, maintenance or repair is immediately required, followed by an immediate retest after repairs, maintenance, removal, reinstallation, or relocation.
Additional information
- Affected property owners will receive details by mail.
- Properties notified of the retrofit program must submit their information to the Municipality.
- Financing and testing of devices is the responsibility of the property owner.
