Cranberry Industry Development Program

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Established New Brunswick cranberry growers
  • Cranberry producers with one acre or more of cranberry beds

Who is not eligible

  • Cranberry growers that are not established in New Brunswick.
  • Cranberry operations with less than one acre of cranberry beds.
  • Applicants that are not members in good standing of Canneberges NB Cranberries.
  • Projects where the activities will be carried out outside New Brunswick.

Eligible expenses

  • Renovation and construction costs for cranberry beds, including site preparation, grading, dike construction, sand application, and leveling.
  • Plant material costs for rooted plugs or non-rooted cuttings, including shipping, royalty fees, and brokerage fees.
  • Monitoring technologies, innovative small-scale equipment, and harvesting totes.
  • Costs associated with expanding existing man-made ponds.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Drainage.
  • Irrigation equipment.
  • Fertilizer.
  • Weed and pest control.
  • Costs incurred before April 1, 2026, unless otherwise indicated in the letter of offer.

  • Priority is given to Elements A and B.
  • Priority is given to farms that have not received funding from this program during the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (2023-2028).
  • Second priority is given to Element C, and last priority is given to Element D.

Discuss with DAAF staff

  • Contact a Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries (DAAF) Business Growth Officer, Development Officer or Specialist to discuss your project before applying
  • Use the Crop Sector Development (Branch) contact list on gnb.ca to find the appropriate DAAF contact

Confirm your eligibility

  • Confirm you are an established New Brunswick cranberry grower with one acre or more of cranberry beds
  • Ensure activities will be carried out within New Brunswick
  • Ensure you are a member in good standing of Canneberges NB Cranberries

Choose a program element

  • Select the CIDP element you are applying to (A: varieties establishment, B: bed renovation, or C: technology/equipment)
  • Verify you meet the applicable element requirements and deadlines

Prepare project documentation

  • Prepare a cranberry bed plan and written description of activities (including Table 3, where applicable)
  • Include a timeline (for bed renovation replanting, where applicable)
  • Provide an estimate (dollar value) of how the funding will contribute to the growth and sustainability of the operation

Gather required supporting documents

  • For Element A, list the varieties being planted (Appendix 1) and ensure plugs are foundation-level virus indexed or provide a strong rationale if not listed
  • For Element C, include a copy of the quotation or invoice, as applicable, and explain how the purchase improves productivity and/or efficiency

Check guidelines and approvals

  • Review the SCAP Administrative Guidelines before submitting your application
  • Ensure any necessary permits, environmental approvals, or certifications are obtained for the project

Submit your application

  • Submit the completed application by email to Sustainable.CAP@gnb.ca or by mail to the Sustainable CAP Program Administrator (DAAF), PO Box 6000, Fredericton, NB, E3B 5H1
  • Submit by the applicable deadline: Element A (June 30, 2025), Element B (August 30, 2025), or Element C (January 21, 2026)

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed after the application deadline for the relevant element.
  • NBDAAF staff may verify project sites, plant density, plant health, or other requirements before claims are processed.
  • Approved applicants receive a letter of offer with reporting requirements.
  • Proof of payment may be required before funding is provided.

Additional information

  • The maximum total contribution under the program is $50,000 per applicant per year.
  • Applications for Elements A and B are reviewed after the June 15, 2026 deadline.
  • First consideration is given to farms that have not received funding from this program during the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (2023-2028).
  • Second priority is given to Element C, and last priority is given to Element D.
