Overview

The Cranberry Industry Development Program (CIDP) provides up to $45,000 per year per applicant to support established New Brunswick cranberry growers in improving yield, marketability, and production practices. Eligible activities include establishing higher-yielding or more marketable cranberry varieties in renovated beds, renovating existing beds, and adopting new technologies or purchasing specialized equipment that enhances cranberry production in New Brunswick.

  • Establish higher-yielding or more marketable cranberry varieties in renovated cranberry beds.
  • Renovate existing cranberry beds in preparation for replanting.
  • Adopt new production technologies and/or acquire specialized equipment to improve cranberry production practices.

Eligibility

  • Be an established New Brunswick cranberry grower with one acre or more of cranberry beds.
  • Be a member in good standing of Canneberges NB Cranberries.
  • Carry out the proposed activities within the province of New Brunswick.
  • Submit the required supporting documentation for the selected program element (e.g., bed plan and activity description; and for Element C, an explanation of productivity/efficiency gains plus a quotation or invoice).
  • Ensure the project costs are incurred on or after April 1, 2025 (and, where applicable, after project approval unless otherwise stated in the letter of offer).

  • New Brunswick cranberry growers
  • Cranberry farming / cranberry production industry

Who is not eligible

  • Cranberry growers that are not established in New Brunswick.
  • Cranberry operations with less than one (1) acre of cranberry beds.
  • Applicants that are not members in good standing of Canneberges NB Cranberries.
  • Projects where the activities will be carried out outside the province of New Brunswick.

Eligible expenses

  • Purchase of eligible cranberry plant material (rooted plugs or unrooted cuttings/vines), including shipping, royalty fees, and brokerage fees.
  • Bed renovation costs, including destruction of existing plants, breaking up and removal of root mass, sanding, bed levelling, and contouring.
  • Purchase of monitoring technologies.
  • Purchase of innovative small-scale equipment.
  • Purchase of harvesting totes/bins.

Eligible geographic areas

  • New Brunswick (activities must be carried out within the province).

Selection criteria

  • Priority is given to projects under Element A (establishment of higher yielding varieties or those with improved marketability).
  • If approved Element A applications collectively exceed the program’s annual funding allotment, funding will be prorated across eligible projects.

Discuss with DAAF staff

  • Contact a Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries (DAAF) Business Growth Officer, Development Officer or Specialist to discuss your project before applying
  • Use the Crop Sector Development (Branch) contact list on gnb.ca to find the appropriate DAAF contact

Confirm your eligibility

  • Confirm you are an established New Brunswick cranberry grower with one acre or more of cranberry beds
  • Ensure activities will be carried out within New Brunswick
  • Ensure you are a member in good standing of Canneberges NB Cranberries

Choose a program element

  • Select the CIDP element you are applying to (A: varieties establishment, B: bed renovation, or C: technology/equipment)
  • Verify you meet the applicable element requirements and deadlines

Prepare project documentation

  • Prepare a cranberry bed plan and written description of activities (including Table 3, where applicable)
  • Include a timeline (for bed renovation replanting, where applicable)
  • Provide an estimate (dollar value) of how the funding will contribute to the growth and sustainability of the operation

Gather required supporting documents

  • For Element A, list the varieties being planted (Appendix 1) and ensure plugs are foundation-level virus indexed or provide a strong rationale if not listed
  • For Element C, include a copy of the quotation or invoice, as applicable, and explain how the purchase improves productivity and/or efficiency

Check guidelines and approvals

  • Review the SCAP Administrative Guidelines before submitting your application
  • Ensure any necessary permits, environmental approvals, or certifications are obtained for the project

Submit your application

  • Submit the completed application by email to Sustainable.CAP@gnb.ca or by mail to the Sustainable CAP Program Administrator (DAAF), PO Box 6000, Fredericton, NB, E3B 5H1
  • Submit by the applicable deadline: Element A (June 30, 2025), Element B (August 30, 2025), or Element C (January 21, 2026)

Additional information

  • The maximum total contribution under the program is $45,000 per applicant per year.
  • DAAF staff will verify plant density and plant health (Element A) and verify renovations followed recommended practices (Element B) before claims are processed.
  • Applicants are responsible for obtaining any required permits, environmental approvals, or certifications needed to complete their project.
  • Applicants may be required to report on the impact of the funding received; reporting requirements will be outlined in the letter of offer.
