CSIP dates and fund status updated
The Community Social Investment Program page now shows the 2026 Thriving Communities Fund as closed, with applications opened February 19, 2026 and closed March 26, 2026 at 12 p.m. It also now shows the 2026 Sustainable Food Security Fund as open, with applications accepted from May 4, 2026 until May 27, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. The Sustainable Food Security Fund description and application guidance were also reorganized, including the addition of a direct submit application link and updated guidelines links. The two-step application process, funding portal, and funding@durham.ca contact remain in place.

Who is eligible?
- Incorporated non-profit organizations (with or without charitable status).
- Unincorporated community organizations under Financial Sponsorship of a registered charitable organization that meets all eligibility criteria.
Who is not eligible
- Hospitals and post-secondary education institutions.
- Organizations where the service component is conditional upon participation in religious or political activities.
- For-profit organizations.
- Applications made exclusively by government or government-based organizations.
- Projects at the national or provincial level, unless Durham Region-based branch exists, and a direct local benefit can be demonstrated.

- Staff training and development costs.
- Program evaluation or assessment costs.
- Staff salaries, rent, supplies, and technology.

How to apply
- Funding applications will be accepted electronically, through the Durham Region Funding Portal.
- All applicants must create an account and complete an Organizational Assessment before moving on to the full application.
- If the Organizational Assessment is flagged for review, applicants will receive notification via email before they can proceed to the full funding application.
- The full application will open to applicants after the Organizational Assessment has been completed and does not require further review.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications that are incomplete or do not meet eligibility requirements will not be assessed beyond the completeness and general eligibility review.
- Applications that meet the general eligibility requirements will be assessed by a Funding Review Committee.
- Eligible applications will be reviewed against the program principles and funding stream criteria, financial sustainability, demonstrated need, anticipated outcomes, and collaboration.
- All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their funding application.
- All projects and funding allocations will be subject to the approval of the Commissioner of Social Services.

- Priority may be given to organizations that have not previously received CSIP funding.
- Applicants may use a financial sponsor if they are not incorporated.
- Some applications may be reviewed before moving to the full application.
- All applicants are notified in writing of the outcome.
