Eligible expenses
- Direct costs necessary to carry out the tree planting or stewardship project on private land.
- Internal or external salaries and people-costs, provided they do not exceed 50% of the requested grant amount.
- Overhead and administrative costs, provided they do not exceed 15% of the requested grant amount.

- Core operating funding.
- Requests where people-costs exceed 50% of the amount requested.
- Requests where overhead and administrative costs exceed 15% of the amount requested.
- Herbaceous plant material and low-growing shrubs under 3 feet without prior written approval.

Processing and Agreement
- Applications are first reviewed for completeness and alignment with the guidelines.
- Applications that move forward are sent to a full review by a grant panel.
- Applicants are notified if their submission advances, is declined, or needs more information.
- Successful applicants must sign a Letter of Understanding with the City of Toronto.
Additional information
- Grant requests over $50,000 require prior consultation with Urban Forestry regarding project scope and eligibility.
- Matching funds can be provided as cash and/or in-kind contributions.
- Projects may be allowed up to 18 months for completion with prior approval from Urban Forestry.
- Virtual information sessions about the program are available on specified dates for interested applicants.
