Activities funded

  • Statement of significance or another document describing the heritage value of the place.
  • Proof of ownership or a long-term lease, and incorporation documents for non-profit organizations if the applicant is not a municipality.
  • Financial report for the last fiscal year.
  • Copies of all cost estimates for the proposed work, written confirmation from other financial partners, and the board resolution supporting the project and application.
  • Business plan, and if applicable, the planned program or description of the proposed reuse of the building or place, plus detailed project plans.

Who is eligible?

  • Local governments
  • Organizations with a head office or main office in New Brunswick

Who is not eligible

  • Organizations with a final report pending under this or the related heritage program
  • Active places of worship
  • Cemetery restoration projects
  • Commercial buildings, including tourist accommodations

Eligible expenses

  • Conservation services and specialized expertise, including design and engineering
  • Costs to restore or renovate the heritage place into a community cultural space

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Funding for a project manager will not be approved if the role is carried out by an employee of the applicant organization.

How to apply

  • Complete the application form and make sure it is signed by an authorized signatory.
  • Include all supporting documents.
  • Send the completed application and supporting documents by email to archeologie-patrimoine@gnb.ca or by mail to Direction de l’archéologie et du patrimoine, Attn: Programme d’amélioration des lieux culturels communautaires, Ministère du Tourisme, du Patrimoine et de la Culture, C. P. 6000, Fredericton (N.-B.) E3B 5H1.

Processing and Agreement

  • Incomplete applications are returned to the applicant.
  • If the application is accepted, any proposed changes to the project must be submitted to the Direction de l’archéologie et du patrimoine before they are made, and the changes may be approved, refused, deemed eligible, or deemed ineligible.
  • As a condition of approval, a final report with annotated photographs, a summary of actual costs, and copies of all paid invoices must be submitted using the provided forms.
  • The Government of New Brunswick contribution must be acknowledged on the website, social media, and other promotional material, and copies must be included in the final report.

  • All program funds for 2026-2027 were fully allocated during the 1 April call for applications.
  • There will be no 7 September call for applications this year.
