Overview
The Community Climate Action Grant provides up to $50,000 for community-led projects in Vancouver that advance the city’s climate goals by supporting the Climate Emergency Action Plan and Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. Eligible activities include reducing carbon pollution, building climate resilience, and educating or mobilizing the public in climate solutions.
Financing terms and conditions
- Maximum funding per project: $50,000.
- Between 3 to 6 projects will be funded in 2026, subject to City Council budget decisions.
- Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to match the funding with their own funds or in-kind support.
Activities funded
- Community-led initiatives to reduce carbon pollution through sustainable transportation, energy-efficient buildings, renewable energy, or low-carbon building materials.
- Projects aimed at building community resilience to climate hazards such as extreme heat, poor air quality, drought, heavy rainfall, or sea level rise.
- Educational programs and campaigns that engage and involve the public in climate solutions.
- Creation or enhancement of green infrastructure and restoration of natural spaces to support climate adaptation and equity.
- Initiatives that improve access to sustainable transportation or food systems while advancing climate equity and social inclusion.

Eligibility
- The project must be led by a registered non-profit society, a registered charity in good standing with the Canada Revenue Agency, or a First Nations Band.
- The project must take place in Vancouver and deliver benefits to the city.
- The project must support one or more focus areas of the Climate Emergency Action Plan or Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and advance climate equity.
- The project duration must be between 1 and 2 years.

Eligible expenses
- Salaries and wages for personnel involved in project activities.
- Costs for workshops, training sessions, and public education events related to climate action.
- Purchase or rental of equipment and materials required for project implementation, such as supplies for repair clinics or retrofitting.
- Consulting or contractor fees for specialized services (e.g., facilitation, technical assessments, installations).
- Expenses for translation and production of educational materials to support community outreach and participation.
- Transportation and delivery costs, including use of zero-emission vehicles for project activities.
- Outreach and marketing expenses to engage participants and promote project objectives within the community.

- Companies whose projects take place in Vancouver and benefit the city of Vancouver.
Selection criteria
- Direct support for one or more focus areas of the Climate Emergency Action Plan or Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, while advancing climate equity.
- Potential to reduce carbon pollution through sustainable transportation, efficient buildings, renewable energy, and low-carbon building materials.
- Ability to build resilience to climate hazards, such as extreme heat, poor air quality, drought, heavy rain, and sea level rise.
- Incorporation of public education and community involvement in climate solutions.

Review eligibility and guidelines

Complete the Expression of Interest
- Download the Expression of Interest application form
- Complete the EOI application with all required details

Submit the Expression of Interest
- Email the completed EOI application to climateactiongrant@vancouver.ca
- Ensure the subject line is: EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
- Submit before the deadline of September 26, 2025, at 5pm PST

Await EOI review and feedback
- Wait for feedback on your EOI after review
- Receive notification if invited to submit a full application (week of October 13, 2025)

Submit the full application
- If invited, complete and submit the full grant application
- Ensure submission by November 24, 2025

Application review and notification
- City staff review final applications (December 2025 - January 2026)
- Applicants are notified one week before City Council review

Final approval and result notification
- Attend City Council meeting for final approval in Spring 2026 (date to be determined)
- Receive confirmation regarding your funding status
