Who is eligible?
- Ontario-registered medical and health care professionals.
- Health care professionals who can show written eligibility for registration within one year.
Eligible expenses
- Travel costs for the health care professional, including personal vehicle mileage and air travel.
- Hotel or motel accommodation required for scheduled interviews.
- Spouse travel and accommodation, if pre-approved in writing.
- Gratuitous lodging up to $30 per night.

How to apply
- Step 1: Review eligible communities
- Check the list of communities eligible under the Rurality Index for Ontario.
- Select the communities you want to visit.
- Step 2: Arrange interviews and travel
- Contact the communities to arrange interviews.
- Plan your own appointments, transportation, and accommodation.
- Step 3: Submit approval request
- The community contact sends the itinerary, CV, and invitation letter to Northern Health Programs.
- Send the request at least one month before the visit.
- Step 4: Receive written approval and travel
- Wait for written approval before making the trip.
- Only pre-approved expenses are eligible for reimbursement.
- Step 5: Submit reimbursement claim
- Complete the Statement of Expenses form.
- Submit the claim within 90 days of travel.
- Send the claim by email or fax.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed after submission by the Northern Health Programs office.
- Written approval must be obtained before the trip.
- Expenses not pre-approved in writing will not be reimbursed.
- Reimbursement claims must be submitted through the Statement of Expenses form.
