Overview of the Codes Acceleration Fund (CAF) program
The Codes Acceleration Fund (CAF) offers up to $30 million to promote the adoption and implementation of energy performance codes, enhance compliance rates, and support market readiness for ambitious codes adoption. Eligible activities include financial support for adopting and enforcing energy codes, developing tools and resources, and building capacity for code adoption and compliance.
Eligible projects & activities
- Acceleration of the adoption and implementation of high-performance building codes, such as net-zero emissions codes.
- Promotion of higher rates of compliance with adopted energy codes.
- Development of tools and resources for capacity building to support market preparedness for ambitious codes adoption.
- Support for code compliance and enforcement strategies.
- Creation of plans and practices that exceed current code adoption strategies.

Eligibility criteria of the Codes Acceleration Fund (CAF) program
- For Stream 1, eligible applicants include Canadian provincial, territorial, regional, and municipal governments and their departments and agencies, as well as Indigenous governing bodies, organizations (for profit and not-for-profit), and communities that have the authority to adopt energy codes or other mandatory energy regulations for homes and buildings.
- For Stream 2, eligible applicants consist of not-for-profit organizations legally incorporated or registered in Canada, regional and municipal governments lacking the authority to adopt codes or regulations, utilities, for-profit organizations legally incorporated or registered in Canada with an established business, as well as Indigenous governing bodies, organizations (for profit and not-for-profit), and communities without authority to adopt building by-laws and codes.
- Applicants must demonstrate how they propose to accelerate code adoption, increase compliance, or develop capacity building resources, tools, and approaches.
- For Stream 1, applicants must additionally demonstrate the potential to accelerate code adoption beyond current plans, increase compliance, and support other capacity building activities in their jurisdiction.

- Canadian provincial, territorial, regional, and municipal governments and their departments and agencies that have the authority to adopt energy codes or mandatory energy regulations
- Indigenous governing bodies, organizations (for profit and not-for-profit) and communities that have the authority to adopt energy codes
- Not-for-profit organizations legally incorporated or registered in Canada, including educational institutions
- Regional and municipal governments that do not have the authority to adopt codes or mandatory energy regulations
- Utilities
- For-profit organizations legally incorporated or registered in Canada with established businesses in Canada
- Indigenous governing bodies, organizations (for profit and not-for-profit) and communities without the authority to adopt building by-laws and/or codes
