Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Property owners
  • Business owners
  • Non-profit organizations and social enterprises as tenants
  • Eligible home-based businesses in the specified area

Who is not eligible

  • Residential homes in the commercial area.
  • Apartment buildings.
  • Government-owned buildings.
  • Properties outside the eligible area.
  • Vacant or non-operating businesses, unless renovating for reopening.

Eligible expenses

  • Direct project labour, contractor fees, and façade-related design, architectural, or engineering fees.
  • Project materials and supplies, plus tool and equipment rental.
  • Shipping, freight, and PST.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Routine maintenance, structural repairs, roofs, landscaping, paving, fencing, ramps, interior work, and new construction.
  • Improvements not visible from the public right of way.
  • Work started before application approval.
  • Staff wages, equipment purchases, utilities, GST, duties, and permit fees.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare the application
    • Complete the application form.
    • Prepare designs, costing, and required supporting materials.
    • Obtain written owner approval if applying as a tenant.
  • Step 2: Submit the application
    • Submit the completed package to the City of Prince Rupert.
  • Step 3: Project review and decision
    • The committee reviews the application and makes an approval decision.
    • The decision is communicated by email and mailed letter.
  • Step 4: Complete the project and claim reimbursement
    • Carry out the approved renovations.
    • Provide invoices and proof of payment, completion documents, and final inspection proof when required.
