Who is eligible?

• Property owners
• Approved representatives of property owners

Who is not eligible

• Businesses in Business Improvement Areas or large commercial corridors
• Buildings used primarily for auto-oriented businesses
• Properties with primary tenants that are liquor stores, body rub centres, cannabis stores, or vape stores
• Buildings already funded through a previous Corner Store exterior or interior grant

Eligible expenses

• Eligible construction costs for exterior or interior improvements
• Design, architectural, and engineering fees, up to 20%
• Project management and administration costs, up to 10%
• Contractor labour and materials related to the renovation

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Permit fees
• Insurance
• Tools, consumables, rent, and incidental costs
• GST
• Applicant labour or contractor labour without a valid City of Edmonton business licence

Eligible geographic areas

• Neighbourhood Commercial Areas in redeveloping neighbourhoods
• Properties within the boundaries of Anthony Henday Drive, in Edmonton, Alberta

• Alignment with program design principles.
• Number and impact of eligible improvements proposed.
• Completeness and eligibility of the application.
• Availability of program funds.

• Step 1: Contact the Program Manager
  • Confirm eligibility and discuss the proposed renovation.
  • Review the relevant program guide and application form.
• Step 2: Submit the application package
  • Send the completed application and required supporting documents to the Program Manager.
  • Include photos, drawings or site plans, and a proposed budget.
• Step 3: Application review
  • The City reviews the application for eligibility and alignment with program requirements.
  • You may receive an approval, conditional approval, or refusal.
• Step 4: Sign the reimbursement agreement
  • Provide required quotes and additional documents if approved.
  • Sign the reimbursement grant agreement before starting construction.
• Step 5: Complete the work and request reimbursement
  • Finish the project, submit proof of payment and completion documents, and await reimbursement.

• Applications are reviewed during regular intake periods, typically within 3 to 4 weeks.
• Applications may be approved, approved with conditions, or refused.
• The City may request additional review and confirms ownership before making a funding decision.
• Approved applicants must sign a reimbursement grant agreement before construction starts.
• Final reimbursement is issued after completed work and required documents are reviewed and approved.

• Applications are reviewed during regular intake periods until annual program funds are depleted or the program ends.
• Approved projects must follow a maintenance period of five years after reimbursement.
• Changes to project scope or cost require prior approval from the Program Manager.
• Decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
