Who is not eligible

  • Residential customers
  • Customers without a QEC commercial or institutional account
  • Projects not located on-site

Eligible expenses

  • Interconnection study costs.
  • Connection and system modification costs.
  • Administrative work related to installation.
  • Operating, maintenance, and decommissioning costs.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Subsidy requests.
  • Off-site generation projects.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Contact QEC and initiate the application.
    • Email the Renewable Energy team.
    • Discuss the project concept with QEC.
  • Step 2: Submit project information.
    • Provide technical details, location, capacity, and single-line diagram.
    • Submit the initial grid impact information if requested.
  • Step 3: Complete the interconnection review.
    • Respond to QEC requests for additional information.
    • Review the interconnection study and cost estimates.
  • Step 4: Sign agreements and proceed.
    • Review and sign the power purchase and connection agreements.
    • Complete construction, inspection, and commissioning.

Processing and Agreement

  • QEC reviews the system before participants purchase renewable energy generating systems.
  • Participants must follow the criteria and standards outlined in QEC’s CIPP program Technical Interconnection Requirements.
  • All participants must review and sign a Power Purchase Agreement.
  • A Generation and Connection Agreement must be signed once a QEC-reviewed renewable power generating facility has been built for connection to QEC’s distribution system.

Additional information

  • QEC is now accepting applications from potential CIPP program participants.
  • QEC strongly recommends that potential participants do not purchase renewable energy generating systems until QEC has reviewed the system.
