How to apply

  • Step 1: Form the student chapter
    • Gather at least 10 student members.
    • Choose a faculty advisor who is a CIM member.
    • Obtain written approval from the host institution.
    • Prepare the chapter bylaws and petition.
  • Step 2: Submit chapter documents
    • Send the member list and written institutional approval to the MetSoc administrator.
    • Submit the bylaws or petition to the Metallurgy and Materials Society administrator.
  • Step 3: Board review and approval
    • The submitted documents are presented to the MetSoc-CIM Board of Directors.
    • The faculty advisor is informed of the board’s decision.
  • Step 4: Receive funding and complete follow-up
    • If approved, receive the $200 start-up allocation through the faculty advisor.
    • Open a university bank account for the chapter funds.
    • Submit the annual chapter report by June 1 to maintain benefits.
  • Step 5: Apply for field trip support
    • Complete the field trip funding form.
    • Include the participant list and submit it to MetSoc for excursion funding.

  • Submitted documents are reviewed by the MetSoc-CIM Board of Directors.
  • The faculty advisor is informed of the board’s decision.
  • Approved chapters receive the start-up payment after board approval.
  • Annual reporting is required to maintain advisor membership benefits.
