- Applicants without an independent research-related appointment at a CIHR-eligible institution.
- Researchers who previously participated as a Mentee or Project Grant reviewer, for Mentee applications.
- Applicants without recent federally funded peer reviewed PI experience, for ECR Reviewer applications.

Selection criteria
- Eligibility as an ECR.
- Relevant appointment and research background.
- For ECR Reviewers, recent federal or equivalent peer reviewed PI funding.
- For Mentees, no prior RiT or Project Grant reviewer participation.
- Selection by lottery for Mentees; expertise-based selection for ECR Reviewers.
How to apply
- Step 1: Prepare application
- Gather your CIHR PIN, CV, institutional letter, and committee preferences.
- Step 2: Complete online application
- Submit the required materials through the program application process.
- Step 3: Submit for review
- CIHR assesses eligibility and committee fit after submission.
- Step 4: Receive outcome
- Selected applicants are notified for participation.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed by CIHR and committee staff for eligibility and expertise fit.
- Mentee selection is made by lottery within the chosen committee options.
- ECR Reviewers are selected based on expertise and eligibility.
- After participation, applicants receive written feedback or a decision letter as applicable.
- Following completion, some participants may be invited to join the College of Reviewers or future RiT rounds.
