  • Research allowance costs such as research materials, equipment, personnel, and knowledge mobilization
  • Community engagement costs, including honoraria, cultural items, and accessibility support

  • Honoraria for grant recipients or independent researchers
  • Consulting fees to the grant recipient or their own company

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare applicant profile
    • Create or use a ResearchNet account.
    • Obtain a CIHR PIN.
    • Complete the Tri-Agency Self-Identification Questionnaire.
  • Step 2: Build the application
    • Complete the full application in ResearchNet.
    • Prepare the proposal, mentorship plan, EDI section, budget confirmation, and required support letters.
    • Upload the tri-agency CV and other required attachments.
  • Step 3: Review and submit
    • Print and sign the signature pages.
    • Upload signed signature pages in ResearchNet.
    • Complete the Consent and Submit task to send the application to CIHR.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are first reviewed for relevance to the program objectives and funding pools.
  • Eligible applications then undergo peer review and ranking.
  • Funding is awarded top down to applications scoring 3.50 or higher.
  • Successful applicants are published on the CIHR website.
  • Phase 2 requires an internal administrative review of the transition package before funds are released.
