Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Nominated Principal Applicants who are independent researchers affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution and/or its affiliated institutions, including hospitals, research institutes and other non-profit organizations with a mandate for health research and/or knowledge translation.
- Institutions Paid that are authorized by CIHR to receive and administer the funds on behalf of the NPA.
Who is not eligible
- An individual cannot submit more than one application as a Nominated Principal Applicant and cannot participate on more than two applications as a Principal Applicant or Principal Knowledge User.
Eligible expenses
- Full-time or part-time salaries paid to members of the grant team, provided they do not conduct research independently as part of their employment, are not the recipient of an agency grant, and are not receiving compensation from other sources for their time spent on the funded research or activities.
- Compensation for knowledge users, including patients, to allow them time to participate in the project.
- Expenditures that respect the culture and traditions of Indigenous Peoples, including dedicated and proportional resources for Indigenous leadership and engagement, secretariat support, Elders and Knowledge Holders, travel to communities, ceremony and Indigenous-led knowledge mobilization.
- Community mobilization and engagement costs, including culturally relevant promotional items such as tobacco, cloth, feasting and gift giving for honoring ceremonies, and cash reimbursements in a method acceptable to the individual or community.
Selection criteria
- Use of scientific and methodological evidence standards.
- Inclusion of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis ways of knowing and doing.
- Relevance to the Canadian context.
- Readiness for scale and consideration of youth perspectives.

Processing and Agreement
- Documents and attachments that exceed the application limits will be removed before peer review.
- Failing to provide the correct CV format for a given role or participant type may negatively affect the evaluation of the application.
- Failure to meet attachment formatting requirements may result in the application being rejected or withdrawn.
- CIHR reserves the right to make the final selection of reviewers.

The Nominated Principal Applicant must be an independent researcher affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution or affiliated institution.
The NPA must have a substantive role in Canada for the duration of the grant term.
The core team must include no more than ten Principal Applicants and/or Principal Knowledge Users, including the NPA.
