Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Independent researchers affiliated with Canadian postsecondary institutions and/or affiliated institutions, including hospitals, research institutes and other non-profit organizations with a mandate for health research and/or knowledge mobilization.
- Canadian organizations implementing a youth mental health intervention can participate as applicant partners.
- For the Indigenous-led intervention pool, the Nominated Principal Applicant or a Principal Applicant may self-identify as Indigenous or provide evidence of meaningful and culturally safe involvement with Indigenous Peoples.
Who is not eligible
- A Nominated Principal Applicant cannot submit more than one application as the Nominated Principal Applicant.
- An organization implementing the intervention can partner with only one Nominated Principal Applicant on a single application.
- Interventions that have already been supported, funded or evaluated within the IYS-Net initiative are not eligible for this funding opportunity.
Eligible expenses
- Full-time or part-time salaries paid to members of the grant team, subject to the stated conditions.
- Translation and preparation of information or material intended for public consumption, including website content, information pamphlets, guidelines, promotional material and event-related material.
- Costs that respect the culture and traditions of Indigenous peoples, including community mobilization and engagement, culturally relevant promotional items, cash reimbursements, and contracts or consultant fees for knowledge mobilization and communication activities.
- Accessibility supports needed for the Nominated Principal Applicant or members of the applicant team to carry out the project and engage with persons with disabilities, such as specialized equipment, support services, compensation and alternate document formats.
- Release Time Allowance for knowledge users, up to a maximum of $25,000 per grant.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Costs related to the on-going delivery or implementation of existing interventions that are normally the responsibility of the health care system.
Selection criteria
- INMHA will perform a relevance review on the summary, relevance form and partner letter(s) to assess alignment with the objectives, research approaches and research areas.
- Applications that are not deemed relevant will be withdrawn from the competition.
- Applications relevant to each pool will be funded top down in order of ranking, and remaining applications will be pooled together and funded in rank order as far as funds will allow.

- Step 3: Attend the webinar
- Register for the CIHR webinar to learn about the funding opportunity and ask questions.
- Step 4: Prepare and submit on ResearchNet
- Complete the application on ResearchNet before the deadline.
Processing and Agreement
- Annual manual reports are required for the duration of the funding term, including during the Authority to Use Funds period.
- A final manual report is required three months after the grant end date, including during the Authority to Use Funds period.
- An electronic Final Report must also be submitted to CIHR on ResearchNet at the beginning of the grant funding period and can be filled in as the research progresses.
- Interventional trials and non-interventional trials must be registered according to CIHR requirements for registration and public disclosure of results from clinical trials.
- Funded teams may be required to collaborate with the National Evidence Platform, participate in one workshop/event during the grant period and one end-of-grant workshop at the end of year 3, and cooperate with future governance and coordination bodies or structures.
