The Childcare Program Stabilization Grants provide up to $10,000 in one-time emergency funding for non-profit licensed childcare organizations in Vancouver facing financial hardship. The grant supports the development of stable financial management systems and long-term financial planning to enhance organizational sustainability.

Financing terms and conditions

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a registered non-profit society, community service co-op, social enterprise wholly governed by a non-profit, registered charity in good standing, or a First Nations Band.
  • The organization must have an independent, active volunteer governing body, with no staff as voting members of the Board or Executive.
  • The organization’s by-laws must specify that Board members cannot be remunerated for serving as directors.
  • The organization must provide services in Vancouver to Vancouver residents and be in compliance with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the British Columbia Human Rights Code.
  • If applying for infant/toddler or 3-5 year childcare program support, the organization must have opted-in to the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative funded by the Province of British Columbia, and fees may not exceed 2.5% above the previous year’s city-wide average.

Who is not eligible

  • For-profit companies and organizations that are not non-profits, registered charities, First Nations Bands, or community service co-ops.
  • Organizations that function as funding bodies or allocate grants to other groups or organizations.
  • Businesses not delivering licensed childcare programs to Vancouver residents.

Eligible expenses

  • Development and implementation of stable financial management systems.
  • Preparation and creation of long-term financial management plans.
  • Consulting or professional fees related to organizational financial stabilization.

  • City of Vancouver

Selection criteria

  • Assessment of the application in the context of the City’s approach to children and childcare.
  • Recommendations provided by Social Policy staff for final decision by Vancouver City Council.

Additional information

  • The grant is a one-time emergency funding of up to $10,000 per organization.
  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the limited funds are exhausted.
  • Social Policy staff will review applications and provide recommendations to Vancouver City Council for final decisions.
  • Exceptions to certain criteria may be approved at the discretion of the Managing Director of Social Policy & Projects.
