Who is eligible?
- Licensed child care providers.
Eligible expenses
- Operational costs, including staff wages and administration.
- Major appliances, damaged outdoor play equipment, free-standing or window-mounted air conditioners, and vehicles used for routinely transporting children.
- Exceptional increases to ongoing expenses such as rent, lease or mortgage payments, and utilities imposed by an arm's length third party.
- Costs related to staying open or reopening after an unusual incident, including serious infectious illness, floods, fires, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.
- Direct care staff wage increases, including related statutory benefits, when the exception criteria are met.
How to apply
- Apply for Child Care Operating Funding and opt in or renew the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative through My ChildCareBC Services.
- If you plan to increase parent fees by more than the annual fee increase limit, submit additional information and/or documentation for ministry review.
Processing and Agreement
- The ministry assesses each application by facility type before approving enrolment in the program.
- Established facilities with no fee increase or an increase within the annual fee increase limit may receive automatic approval within a few business days, if all other criteria are met.
- Exceptional fee increase requests are reviewed under the Parent Fee Increase Exceptions Policy, and the ministry may approve the request, offer an approvable fee schedule, or reject it.
- Providers may receive temporary approval until the month their requested fee increase takes effect, unless the fee increase is for April 2026.
- Providers that accept an approvable fee schedule or postpone a fee increase can continue receiving funding; new information may delay the decision and cause payment interruptions.
