How to apply

Review eligibility guidelines
- Review the funding guidelines, vision, mission, and guiding principles.
- Confirm that your organization and project align with the foundation’s priorities and limitations.

Verify organizational eligibility
- Check that your organization is a registered Canadian charity with an independent board or comparable governing body.
- Ensure that financial statements are available for review.
- Confirm that your request is not for an excluded purpose such as debt reduction, individual missionaries or students, mission trips, or Canadian hospitals and healthcare.

Prepare the Letter of Inquiry
- Prepare a one- to two-page Letter of Inquiry for your organization.
- Include a brief description of your ministry or work, your project, and the amount requested.
- Note that only one LOI per organization is accepted per calendar year, and funding is offered in one-year increments.

Submit the LOI by email
- Email your Letter of Inquiry to info@charisfoundation.ca.
- Use the subject line “LOI: [Your Organization Name]”.
- Submit during the Fall 2026 window from June 1 to July 31, 2026.

Await the review outcome
- The foundation reviews all submitted Letters of Inquiry.
- If selected, you will be invited to submit a full grant proposal with detailed next-step instructions.
- If not selected, you will be notified that your request will not proceed further.
Processing and Agreement
- All Letters of Inquiry are reviewed by The Charis Foundation.
- Following review, organizations are either invited to submit a full grant proposal or notified that their request has not been selected for further consideration.
- If the LOI is approved for the next stage, the organization is contacted directly with detailed instructions on the next steps.
Additional information
- There are two granting cycles each year.
- The Spring 2026 cycle is closed.
- Fall 2026 Letters of Inquiry are accepted from June 1 to July 31, 2026.
- Board decisions are expected in mid-October 2026.
