Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Registered property owners, assessed property owners, and tenants of a property with owner consent

Who is not eligible

  • Applicants in default of any by-law, with property tax arrears, or involved in ongoing litigation with the Municipality or the Manitoulin Planning Board

Eligible expenses

  • Façade improvements, signage development, and street-front landscape improvements
  • Interior building renovations and improvements, including building, fire and other code compliance, expansion/additions, retrofitting existing space such as second floors, and energy efficient uses
  • Applicable planning and related fees for new commercial, mixed-use, and new multi-unit residential properties
  • Phase II environmental site assessment work to specify the extent and nature of environmental contamination

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Operations of individual businesses, regardless of whether they are target sectors or otherwise
  • Operations of individual businesses to overcome the impact of seasonality of the tourism market
  • Individual marketing or business promotion programs

Eligible geographic areas

  • CIP Target Zones 1 and 2: the Hamlet areas of Mindemoya and Providence Bay
  • CIP Target Zone 3: Commercial Fixed-roof Accommodation lands across the Municipality

Selection criteria

  • Eligibility is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Applications are assessed using minimum criteria based on the quality of the proposed property enhancement and/or development project.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are screened and then reviewed by the Evaluation Committee before Council decides whether to fund.
  • The Municipality may approve an application in part or in whole, reject any or all applications, seek clarification or additional information, and add to, adjust, or terminate the programs of assistance.
  • The Municipality reserves the right to verify any information contained in the application.
  • If, during construction, the applicant defaults on relevant by-laws or payments and does not remedy the default within a reasonable period, any grant assistance may have to be repaid in part or in whole at the Municipality’s discretion.
