Overview
The Celebrate Canada Funding Program offers up to $50,000 to support free, community-based activities celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, and Canada Day. Eligible activities must promote Canada’s cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and geographic diversity and be accessible to the general public.
Financing terms and conditions
- Funding may cover up to 100% of eligible project-related costs, not exceeding $50,000 per fiscal year as a grant.
- For projects requiring more than $50,000 per fiscal year, up to 100% of eligible expenses may be funded through a contribution agreement.
- The combined total of government financial assistance (federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal) must not exceed 100% of project eligible costs.
Activities funded
- Organization of free, public community events celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, or Canada Day.
- Hosting of soccer-themed activities as part of Canada Day 2026 celebrations.
- Events promoting and celebrating Canada's cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and geographic diversity.
- Celebrations that engage families, children, and diverse community members.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a Canadian not-for-profit organization, a business corporation for non-commercial projects, an educational institution, a municipal government, another municipal or provincial/territorial institution, or an Indigenous Peoples institution or organization.
- The project must be organized during the Celebrate Canada period (June 21 to July 1) to celebrate and promote one or more of the designated days: National Indigenous Peoples Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, or Canada Day.
- The project must be free of charge and open to the general public.
Who is eligible?
- Canadian not-for-profit organizations (corporations, trusts, cooperatives, unincorporated associations)
- Canadian business corporations (for non-commercial projects)
- Canadian educational institutions
- Canadian municipal governments and other municipal, provincial, or territorial institutions
- Indigenous institutions, organizations, local band councils, tribal councils, and other local Indigenous governments or organizations (First Nations, Inuit, Métis)
Who is not eligible
- Federal, provincial, and territorial government entities (except the Canada Place Corporation for Canada Day celebrations)
- Organizations proposing projects that are primarily religious, political, or commercial in nature
Eligible expenses
- Promotional and communications expenses directly related to the project.
- Entertainment costs associated with the funded event.
- Supplies and equipment rental for the celebration.
- Cake for Canada Day celebrations.
- Ceremonial and traditional food for National Indigenous Peoples Day and Canadian Multiculturalism Day celebrations.
- Fireworks or light shows for the designated festivities.
- Expenses related to a designated celebratory day within a festival.
- Administrative costs directly related to the project (including salaries, benefits, professional fees, bank charges, and utilities), up to 15% of the total contribution.
- Travel and hospitality expenses within Canada, up to government business travel rates.

- Businesses or organizations established in Canada, including in all Canadian provinces, territories, and municipalities.
- Organizations operating at the local (community or neighborhood), municipal, regional, provincial, territorial, or interprovincial/interterritorial level in Canada.
Selection criteria
- Adherence to program objectives and scheduling activities on designated days.
- Engagement and inclusiveness of diverse groups (e.g., Indigenous groups, official language minority communities, ethnocultural groups, youth).
- Wider participation and accessibility to the general public.
- Use of Canadian symbols and partnerships.
- Completeness of the application and a balanced, realistic budget.

- Set up your Applicant Profile with all mandatory information
- Upload required documents for your organization type (incorporation documents or responsibility form, direct deposit form, etc.)

Complete and upload application
- Complete the online application form via the Funding Portal
- Upload necessary supporting documents (delegation of signing authority, statutes and by-laws, recent financial statements, etc.)
- Ensure all sections are filled in with sufficient detail

Verify and finalize application
- Review the entire application for completeness and eligibility
- Confirm all required documents are included
- Verify the proposed project meets all program criteria

Submit application online
- Submit your completed application package electronically via the Funding Portal
- Ensure submission is before the published deadline
- Save confirmation of application receipt

Await results and further requests
- Wait for acknowledgment of receipt from the program
- Monitor your email, including spam or junk folder, for confirmation
- Respond promptly to any information requests from program administrators
Additional information
- When the application deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or statutory holiday, it is extended to the next working day.
- Administrative costs directly related to the project can be covered, up to a maximum of 15% of the total contribution.
- If the total funding received from all government sources exceeds eligible costs, excess funds must be returned.
- Applicants are required to publicly acknowledge federal financial support in both English and French in all communications materials related to the funded activity.
