How to apply

  • Step 1: Registration
    • Register the Nominated Principal Applicant and any other participants in ResearchNet.
    • Submit the registration to remain eligible for the full application.
  • Step 2: Full application
    • Complete the participant information and proposal sections.
    • Upload the required CVs and supporting documents.
    • Include the participant table, letters of support, and any required attachments.
  • Step 3: Review and submit
    • Preview the full application in ResearchNet.
    • Obtain required signatures and submit before the deadline.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are first checked through a relevance review at the full application stage.
  • Only applications aligned with the mandate, digital health, and program objectives move forward.
  • Eligible applications then go through peer review and ranking.
  • Funding is awarded from the top of the ranking until funds are exhausted.
  • Successful applicants are notified and funded projects begin on the funding start date.

Additional information

  • CIHR will host webinars to support applicants and answer questions.
  • Successful applicants may be encouraged to participate in peer review when invited.
  • Public-facing materials must be in both English and French, screen-reader accessible, and written in plain language.
  • Research security attestation may be required for named researchers if the project advances sensitive technology areas.
