Activities funded

Documents Needed

  • The Direct Deposit Application Form (FIN312), unless your organization has received a grant payment from the Community Gaming Grants Branch since April 1, 2024 and has not updated banking information.
  • Revenue and expense statements and a balance sheet from the most recently completed fiscal year.
  • A budget for the current fiscal year.
  • Recent third-party cost quotes or professional estimates supporting the total project cost.
  • Depending on the project, a certificate of title or BC Property Assessment, or a signed lease and permission or commitment letter; repatriation projects also require signed documents confirming the intention to repatriate materials and, where applicable, a letter of support.

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Not-for-profit organizations, including designated Community Service Cooperatives.
  • Organizations that have previously received Program Grant funding or PAC & DPAC funding within the last three years.
  • Previously successful Capital Project Grant recipients applying once every three grant intakes.

Who is not eligible

  • For-profit organizations, member-funded societies, cooperatives other than designated Community Service Cooperatives, and community contribution companies (C3s).
  • Organizations that exist solely to raise funds for capital projects and will not manage the asset long-term, or ancillary groups sustaining a for-profit business.
  • Chambers of commerce, boards of trade, political parties, political action groups, and lobby groups.
  • Federal, provincial, regional, municipal, First Nation, or other local governments, including government-operated or controlled libraries, museums, galleries, recreation centres, hospitals, and medical or health care facilities.
  • Educational institutions, schools, school authorities, penal institutions, correction centres, religious institutions, professional or industry organizations, and organizations whose majority of board members are employed by the organization or provide services under contract.

Eligible expenses

  • Project-related fees paid to professionals, technical personnel, consultants, and contractors engaged for the capital project.
  • Project materials.
  • Costs to transport or ship acquisitions such as equipment.
  • Licenses, permits, insurance, and environmental or archaeological impact assessment costs needed for the approved project.
  • Other direct and necessary implementation costs, including transportation and storage, cultural ceremonies and honorariums, project management, and consultant fees for repatriation projects.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Contributions to annual fundraising drives or capital campaigns.
  • Costs incurred for canceled projects.
  • Financing charges and interest payments on loans.
  • Leasing or rental of equipment that is not directly related to the capital project.
  • Ongoing operating expenses, routine facility or property maintenance, decommissioning or recycling of a previous project or asset, program delivery costs, and any goods or services received as donations.

Selection criteria

  • Alignment with Grant Objectives (25%): community benefit and public inclusiveness.
  • Project Feasibility (35%): timeline, risk management, approvals, state of title or license to occupy, and operational viability.
  • Financial Considerations (35%): organization financial position, project budget, use of grant funds, and matching funds.
  • Special Project Features (5%): environmental efficiency.
  • Additional consideration may be given after scoring to grant distribution across all six sectors, geographic distribution across the province, available funding, and Indigenous not-for-profit organizations.

How to apply

  • Review the Capital Project Grant Guidelines and Conditions before applying.
  • Apply between July 17 and August 31, 2026.
  • Ensure your organization has a Business BCeID account, or use a Basic BCeID account.
  • Prepare the required documents and information listed in Section 5.4.
  • Start the online application, choose the Capital Projects Grant form and the appropriate BCeID link, and attach all required supporting documentation.
  • Submit the application and wait for email notification by December 31, 2026.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications that meet the mandatory eligibility criteria are evaluated using the scoring criteria based on the submitted documentation.
  • The final determination of approved projects is made by the Community Gaming Grants Manager, and all decisions are final.
  • Successful applicants must submit a Gaming Account Summary Report with a Capital Project Supplement within 90 days of fiscal year end.
  • When the project is completed, recipients must notify the Branch in writing and include the final Capital Project Supplement Report, a description of the completed project and its community benefit, and a minimum of three photos.
  • If an approved project cannot be completed, the funding must be returned to the Community Gaming Grants Branch.

Additional information

  • Recipients must acknowledge the financial assistance of the Province of British Columbia in promotional materials and signage using the required statement.
  • If the B.C. logo will be used, the Application for Third Party Use of BC ID must be completed and the B.C. Visual Identity Program guidelines must be followed.
  • Successful applicants must file a final Capital Project Supplement Report, a description of the completed project and its community benefit, and a minimum of three photos.
  • The online application is best suited to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge; Safari on Mac devices may not complete submission.
