Who is eligible?
- Lead Canadian Principal Applicant (Nominated Principal Applicant) who is a member of the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNA) in one of these roles: Nominated Principal Investigator, Principal Investigator, or Co-Applicant.
Selection criteria
- CIHR and its partners conduct a relevance review before peer review.
- Applications deemed relevant will be funded from the top down as far as budgets allow.
How to apply
- Submit the application to COEN.
- Canadian applicants must also complete an abbreviated CIHR application and submit it using ResearchNet.
- Upload the signed signature pages, including the routing slip, in the Print/Upload Signature Pages task in ResearchNet before submitting the application.
- Complete the mandatory ResearchNet tasks: Identify Participants, Enter Proposal Information, Complete Summary of Research Proposal, Enter Budget Information, Print, sign and upload Signature Pages, Preview Application Materials, and Consent and Submit Application.
Processing and Agreement
- CIHR and its partners will conduct a relevance review before peer review using application and nominative information.
- Successful applicants and any other persons working on the project must comply fully with CIHR Funding Policies.
- Successful applicants will be informed of any special financial requirements prior to the release of funds or when they receive the Authorization for Funding (AFF) document.
- The Lead Canadian Principal Applicant must submit an electronic Final Report to CIHR.
- The Nominated Principal Applicant must participate in monitoring, review, and evaluation activities and encourage associates, trainees, and administration to participate as required.

- The initiative is part of the CIHR Dementia Research Strategy and is funded through CIHR’s Roadmap Accelerator Fund.
- Scientific leadership is provided by the Institute of Aging and the Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction.
