Who is eligible?
- Institutions with a proven capability to execute large projects may apply for Large & Multi-Year Grants.
Eligible expenses
- A temporary short-term stipend (e.g., for a summer student) for a specific task that is directly linked to the development of a project.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Projects that are normally funded by university budgets or government granting agencies such as NSERC or NRCan.
- Field work.
- Field trips, including conference field trips.
- Tours.
- Payment of salaries, payment of honoraria, and open-ended or undefined stipends.

- Grants are awarded annually in a competitive process.
- Proposals are evaluated competitively within their respective tier.
How to apply
- Fill out the Cover Sheet and Application Form and download them as PDFs to include in your application package.
- Complete all fields on the cover page and the application form.
- Keep the main application form to a total of five pages.
- Provide any supplemental material in electronic format (JPG, TIF, DOC, PDF), with no more than two supplemental files.
- Submit the application electronically to the Secretary no later than March 31 or October 31.
Processing and Agreement
- Partially or improperly completed applications will not be returned for correction.
- Grant money is only paid to successful applicants at the end of the project, upon submission of paid invoices and a short report.
