Overview
Eligible Canadian SMEs participating in the Canadian Cleantech for Mining Mission to Australia and Indonesia (May 4–13, 2026) can receive up to $5,000 to reimburse 75% of travel costs to support international market engagement and pilot/demonstration opportunities. Funding supports mission-related economy travel fares and per diem expenses for participating in networking events, tailored B2B meetings, site visits, and conference activities in Perth and Jakarta.

Activities funded
- Participate in the Canadian Cleantech for Mining Mission business program in Perth (including GRX26) and Jakarta to connect with mining-sector stakeholders and end-users for pilot or demonstration opportunities.
- Develop and pursue pilot or demonstration collaborations for sustainable mineral processing and extraction innovations in remote or off-grid mining environments.
- Develop and pursue pilot or demonstration collaborations for clean energy innovations that reduce diesel reliance and improve energy resilience in remote mining operations.
- Engage in tailored B2B meetings, networking sessions, and site visits with Australian and Indonesian mining organizations to advance partnerships and market entry.
- Present your company and technology through company presentations or pitch sessions to potential partners and buyers in Australia and Indonesia.
Eligibility
- Be an incorporated, profit-oriented Canadian SME (500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees).
- Have been in operation for at least 12 months before the project proposal deadline.
- Have at least 5 full-time equivalent employees located in Canada on payroll (issued a T4), excluding founders and contract employees, by the Canadian registration deadline.
- Be developing and commercializing innovative, technology-driven products, services, or processes in Canada with differentiated, protectable technology and global commercial potential.
- Have the financial and operational capacity to undertake a technology pilot or demonstration while maintaining regular operations, and to commercialize the results.
Who is eligible?
- Canadian incorporated, profit-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) developing and commercializing innovative cleantech solutions for the mining sector
- Canadian large companies with cleantech innovations for mining (eligible to participate in the mission, but not eligible for NRC IRAP funding)
- Companies focused on sustainable mineral processing and extraction technologies (for critical minerals)
- Companies focused on clean energy innovation for remote mining operations (e.g., diesel displacement, energy efficiency, energy resilience)
- Companies offering digital optimization and automation technologies for mining operations (e.g., AI-enabled process control, predictive maintenance, simulation platforms)
Who is not eligible
- Non-profit organizations (the program is for incorporated, profit-oriented companies).
- Companies that are not incorporated in Canada.
- Canadian SMEs that are not eligible as NRC IRAP clients (required to be considered for NRC IRAP funding support).
- Canadian large companies seeking NRC IRAP project funding (large companies may join the delegation but are not eligible for NRC IRAP funding).
Eligible expenses
- Economy travel fares for the mission (reimbursed at 75% up to $5,000).
- Per diem travel costs associated with the mission (reimbursed at 75% up to $5,000).

How to apply
- Step 1: Online registration (register button)
- Register online using the “Register” button at the bottom of the mission webpage.
- Complete the registration before the deadline to register (January 28, 2026).
- If no “Register” button is visible, contact the NRC IRAP International Office at irap.international.pari@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca for information.
- Step 2: Obtain the Expression of Interest form (EOI)
- After registering, receive the Expression of Interest form provided to potentially eligible applicants.
- Step 3: Complete the Expression of Interest (applicant, technology, co-innovation)
- Fill out the EOI application form with the requested information about the applicant, the organization, the technology, and co-innovation opportunities of interest.
- Prepare the EOI for submission by the deadline (February 11, 2026).
- Step 4: Submit questions / request guidance (NRC IRAP International Office)
- Email questions or requests for more information about submitting the EOI to irap.international.pari@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca.

- Step 5: NRC IRAP client status check (for SMEs seeking funding)
- If you are not already an NRC IRAP client and want to be considered for NRC IRAP project funding, call 1-877-994-4727 to determine whether you might be eligible for support through NRC IRAP.
Processing and Agreement
- The managing organizations review registrations and Expressions of Interest, then notify applicants of results (notification date: February 27, 2026).
- SMEs selected by NRC IRAP for participation may be invited to apply for NRC IRAP project funding support related to the mission.
- Selected SME participants receive instructions and details on how to access the travel-cost reimbursement support.
Additional information
- The mission includes participation in the Global Resources Innovation Expo (GRX26) conference in Perth.
- A pre-mission webinar is planned for March 2026 (to be confirmed).
- Delegates will travel from Perth to Jakarta between May 9 and 10, 2026.
- Registration may be closed if the online “register” button is not visible on the mission webpage.
