Who is eligible?
- Canadian postsecondary institutions.

Selection criteria
- Quality of the chairholder and the proposed research program.
- Quality of the institutional environment.
- Institutional commitment.
- Fit of the proposed chair with the institution’s strategic research plan.
- Performance report showing how the chairholder achieved the objectives of the original nomination, upheld program standards of excellence, and added value at the institution.
How to apply
- Submit the renewal nomination through the Convergence Portal within the relevant nomination timeline.
- Include the six-page progress report with the renewal nomination.
- Ensure the three letters of reference are received before the nomination can be submitted.
Processing and Agreement
- Renewal nominations not recommended for support by the Interdisciplinary Adjudication Committee are automatically entered into the Deferred Recommendation Process.
- The institution receives a summary of the IAC’s concerns and all external reviewers’ reports and may respond with a one-page letter and a two-page report; limited CV updates are accepted if applicable.
- TIPS reviews the original nomination, the external reviewers’ reports, the summary of concerns, and the supplementary information, then makes a final funding recommendation at a subsequent meeting.
- Appeals are not considered unless an administrative error was made in the management of the peer review process.
