Canada-Japan partnership development program with Japanese multinational enterprises - Fall 2022

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Canadian SME participants must be registered NRC IRAP clients

Eligible expenses

  • Eligible activity costs

Selection criteria

  • Preference may be given to SME applicants with a minimum of 10 full-time equivalent employees.
  • Preference may be given to SME applicants that have commercialized 1 or more products domestically or internationally.
  • Preference may be given to SME applicants with greater than $500,000 CAD in annual revenue.
  • Preference may be given to SME applicants with experience in the Japanese market.

How to apply

  • Register online using the Register button at the end of the page.
  • Submit an expression of interest (EOI) form outlining basic information on the applicant, the proposed solution, and how the solution addresses one of the areas of interest or challenges.
  • Work with Japanese MNEs to complete and submit the collaborative proof of concept (PoC) implementation plan.
  • Work with the NRC IRAP representative to prepare the NRC IRAP funding proposal and contribution agreement.

Processing and Agreement

  • NRC IRAP reviews registrations and may contact applicants if more information is required.
  • EOIs are evaluated by the applicant's NRC IRAP representative, the NRC IRAP International Office, and Japan's Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute (ATR).
  • Only qualifying applicants are introduced to Japanese MNEs and invited to submit a collaborative proof of concept implementation plan.
  • PoC implementation plans are shared between NRC IRAP and ATR to jointly select the collaborative projects invited to the funding agreement phase.
  • Canadian applicants work with their NRC IRAP representative to prepare an NRC IRAP funding proposal and contribution agreement.
