Who is eligible?
- Incorporated, profit-oriented Canadian SMEs with 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees.
- Canadian SMEs that are registered NRC IRAP clients or eligible for funding as NRC IRAP clients.
Who is not eligible
- Canadian SME applicants that are not eligible for funding as NRC IRAP clients.
Selection criteria
- The process is competitive, and only the most qualified Canadian applicants are invited to the mentoring program and the detailed proposal stage.
- Preference may be given to SME applicants with a minimum of 10 full-time equivalent employees located in Canada, excluding contract employees.
- Preference may be given to SME applicants that have commercialized 1 or more products domestically or internationally.
- Preference may be given to SME applicants with more than $500,000 CAD in annual revenue or experience in the Japanese market.
How to apply
- Register online using the register button at the end of the page.
- If not already an NRC IRAP client, contact 1-877-994-4727 to determine whether you might be eligible for support through NRC IRAP.
- NRC IRAP will review registrations for the call for proposals.
- Applicants deemed eligible will be invited to submit an Expression of Interest form.
Processing and Agreement
- Registrations are reviewed by NRC IRAP, and applicants may be contacted if more information is required.
- Applications deemed eligible proceed to the next phase and are invited to submit an Expression of Interest form.
- EOIs are evaluated by the applicant's Industrial Technology Advisor (ITA) and the NRC IRAP International Office.
- Only the most qualified Canadian applicants are invited to participate in the one-week mentoring program and submit the detailed international collaborative R&D project proposal with Japanese project partners.
