Who is eligible?
- Canadian universities
- Universities seeking to nominate an international researcher
- Institutions applying for an Emerging Leader award
Who is not eligible
- Researchers applying directly without a Canadian institution
- Nominees already being submitted by another institution in the same competition
- Non-university institutions that do not meet program eligibility
Eligible expenses
- Salary of the chairholder, retroactive only to the date of acceptance of the chair

How to apply
- Step 1: Prepare the registration and application
- Complete the registration and application through the Convergence Portal.
- Use the required documents and forms for the competition.
- Step 2: Submit by the deadline
- Submit the registration and full application through the Convergence Portal by the specific deadline for each intake.
- No changes can be made after the deadline.
- Step 3: Administrative review
- TIPS conducts an administrative review to confirm eligibility and compliance with application guidelines.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed through a competitive, multidisciplinary peer review process.
- Applications are assessed against the five published selection criteria.
- Final recommendations are made by the multidisciplinary selection committee.
- The steering committee ratifies funding recommendations and the program notifies applicants of the outcome in Convergence.
- Successful institutions must accept the award terms and comply with reporting and EDI requirements.

- Institutions must submit a separate registration and application for each nominee.
- Applications are processed through the Convergence Portal.
- A mandatory self-identification form is required for nominees.
- Selected chairholders and early career researchers may receive priority immigration processing.
