Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Master's students
  • PhD students
  • Students enrolled in universities in Canada or Iceland

Eligible expenses

  • Travel to Cambridge Bay and Reykjavik
  • Accommodation at both research locations

Selection criteria

  • Field work experience in the Arctic or sub-Arctic, or involvement in Arctic or northern research
  • Alignment with one of the science and technology priorities
  • Ability to participate in two research placements
  • Assets: community engagement, science communication, and involving a student from the other country

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare the application
    • Complete the application form.
    • Prepare a research plan of up to 3 pages.
    • Include your CV and a letter of support from your supervisor or project leader.
  • Step 2: Submit to the correct email address
    • Canadian applicants send their application to POLAR.
    • Icelandic applicants send their application to Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Iceland.
    • Applications must be submitted in English.
  • Step 3: Meet the deadline
    • Applications must be received by April 12, 2018.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed against the published selection criteria.
  • Selected candidates are notified for the exchange program.
  • One candidate from each country is selected for the 2018 intake.
