Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian incorporated, profit-oriented SMEs with 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees that are registered in Canada.
  • German SMEs under the European Union definition that perform R&D to develop innovative products, processes or technological services.
  • Consortia that include at least one Canadian SME and one German SME.

Who is not eligible

  • Projects involving research and development of products, processes or technologies with military or non-peaceful applications.
  • Participants that are related in terms of corporate ownership.

  • Projects involving research and development of products, processes or technologies with military or non-peaceful applications.

Selection criteria

  • Eligible applications are evaluated independently by each national funding body in line with its national and institutional laws and regulations.
  • A proposal is selected only if all national funding bodies jointly approve and fund it.

How to apply

  • Each applicant must contact its national funding body before beginning a project application.
  • Canadian applicants must register online by clicking the REGISTER button to receive an Expression of Interest form.
  • Canadian applicants who meet the registration screening criteria are invited to submit an Expression of Interest form to NRC IRAP before the deadline.
  • German applicants may submit an optional German Project Sketch for advanced feedback.
  • All consortia must submit International Consortium Project Proposals before the deadline; the joint proposal form and draft International Consortium Agreement must be emailed to both ZIM and NRC IRAP.
  • Canadian applicants must submit the NRC IRAP Canadian Annex Form, and each German project partner must file an individual ZIM application in paper form by post to AiF Projekt GmbH.

Processing and Agreement

  • Each national funding body carries out an independent evaluation of eligible applications in accordance with its national and institutional laws and regulations.
  • A proposal is selected only if all national funding bodies jointly decide to approve and fund it.
  • Applicants whose proposals are selected must complete a funding agreement with their national funding bodies.
