• Training Plan Workbook
• Business entity documents, including Certificate of Incorporation for corporate applicants and Society Certificate of Incorporation for not-for-profit applicants
• Verification of approval from other funding sources, if applicable

Who is eligible?

• Corporations of any size, public or privately owned and incorporated
• Indigenous organizations and First Nations
• Not-for-profit organizations whose sole purpose is to create jobs and economic benefit in their industry
• Eligible applicants operating in other natural resource sectors that are hiring and training displaced forestry workers may be eligible

Eligible expenses

• Lost wages from time away from work to participate in training activities
• Training fees and tuition costs directly related to the training or certification program

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Activities that primarily benefit government operations
• Capital infrastructure or permanent asset creation
• Ongoing operational or maintenance activities not directly attributable to approved participant training or employment interventions
• Retrospective costs, including expenses incurred before project approval and pre-application costs
• GST

• Applications are scored on key deliverables, leverage, and strategic factors.
• Key deliverables focus on whether the applicant has demonstrated the deliverables that will result from the project.
• Leverage considers the extent of Northern Development’s financial contribution and the applicant’s financial contribution to the eligible project budget.
• Strategic factors include alignment to labour market priorities and needs, clear and evidence-based problem definition, degree of innovation, potential impact, scalability and transferability, public benefit versus private gain, equity and inclusion, and realistic risk identification and mitigation.

• Applications will only be accepted via the online application portal.
• Review all program documents carefully.
• Complete the online application package.
• Upload all required supporting documentation.
• Submit the completed application through the online portal.

• Project applications will be assessed by staff upon receipt and presented to the decision-making committee on an established schedule.
• Northern Development may contact applicants to seek clarification and inform them of approval decisions.
• Applications will first be assessed for applicant and industry eligibility.
• Project eligibility assessment may require Northern Development to contact eligible applicants and collect further personally identifiable information for employees.
• Reporting is required monthly during the funding period.
