Who is eligible?
- Professional artists
- Independent curators
- Artists in visual arts, arts and crafts, architectural research, digital arts, film and video, literature, storytelling, spoken word, dance, music, theatre, circus, multidisciplinary arts, and popular song
Who is not eligible
- Applicants who have resided outside Québec for two or more years, unless they have maintained their status as a Québec resident
- Independent curators employed full time as a curator in an arts organization
- Shareholders of a corporation or partnership, or employees of a non-profit organization, may apply only for personal projects outside the activities of that company or organization
Eligible expenses
- Candidate remuneration and fees for participating artists and collaborators, excluding the applicant
- Research expenses and payment of copyright and resale rights
- Graphic design expenses for print or electronic publications
- Promotional materials, advertising and distribution expenses
- Certain professional or contractual fees, translation, editing and proofreading expenses, and specialized equipment necessary for the project when it cannot be rented or costs less to buy than to rent
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Expenses already covered by aid granted by public or private organizations or by other sources of financing
- Creating and updating a website
- Producing a portfolio
- Project solely for self-publication of the author’s writing
- Promotional publications, projects not primarily about living Québec artists, and projects in connection with national or international events

- Quality of artistic work (40%)
- Interest and relevance of the project (60%)
- Artist remuneration and project management must each receive at least Satisfactory
- Funding decisions are based on peer assessment
- The CALQ seeks balance between generations, genders, ethnocultural groups and regions of Québec, and takes into account the relative value of projects and the credits available
How to apply
- Step 1: Prepare the application
- Read the program requirements carefully
- Complete the project description form and personal information form
- Gather proof of partners’ commitment and the supporting files requested in the form
- Step 2: Submit online
- Log in to Mon dossier CALQ through the Government Authentication Service
- Fill in the online application form
- Submit the file online
- Step 3: Alternate submission method
- If online submission is not available for the program, send the file by WeTransfer
- Follow the instructions provided in the project description form
- Step 4: Receive confirmation
- Keep the email acknowledgement of receipt
- Monitor the file status in Mon dossier CALQ if registered
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are first reviewed by CALQ program managers based on eligibility conditions and the general objectives of the program.
- Eligible applications are then evaluated by juries, and assessors may be called upon when necessary.
- The jury makes recommendations to the board of directors, which ratifies them.
- Decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
- Applicants are informed of the decision around four months after submission, and accepted applicants receive a confirmation letter with the grant terms and conditions.
