Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Indigenous governments.
  • Indigenous not-for-profit organizations.
  • Indigenous youth organizations.
  • Two-Spirit organizations.

Who is not eligible

  • For-profit organizations.
  • Organizations whose work is not focused on Indigenous communities and peoples.
  • Applicants outside Canada.

Eligible expenses

  • Only eligible costs necessary to deliver the project.
  • Additional costs for activities in remote or northern areas, where applicable.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Profit-making activities.
  • Standalone activities not tied to the intervention.
  • Ongoing operations.
  • Activities addressing gender-based violence outside Canada.
  • Awareness campaigns, needs assessments, studies, publications, wraparound services, material assistance, and direct services such as shelters or legal advice.

  • Projects in Quebec may be subject to Act M-30 requirements.

Selection criteria

  • Alignment with the stream objective and key action areas.
  • Ability to engage youth and include their voice throughout the project.
  • Use of trauma- and violence-informed, culturally safe approaches.
  • Capacity for intervention research and project delivery.
  • Experience working with Indigenous youth and Indigenous communities.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed against the stream requirements and program objectives.
  • Only a limited number of projects will be funded.
  • If funded, the project research protocol must be approved by a research ethics board.
  • The lead Indigenous organization and collaborators retain ownership and control of the project data and research.
