Overview

The Call for artists - creating artworks with residents of Villeray offers a grant of $3,000 per artist for the development and delivery of participatory art workshops with local residents, resulting in the creation of artworks to be installed in the green alleys of Villeray. Eligible activities include designing and leading four collaborative workshops between June and September 2025, focused on producing sustainable artworks in partnership with community members.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be an artist working or residing on the Island of Montreal.
  • The applicant must have professional artist status.
  • The project must focus on visual arts using sustainable, natural, or recyclable materials, or otherwise address this criterion.
  • The applicant must have completed at least one project involving cultural outreach or mediation.
  • The applicant must be available between June and September 2025 to conduct four workshops on weekday evenings at Maison de la culture Claude-Léveillée.

  • Professional artists working or residing on the Island of Montreal

Who is not eligible

  • Companies and organizations that are not professional artists based or working on the Island of Montreal.
  • Businesses that do not have a focus on visual arts using sustainable, natural, or recycled materials.
  • Entities without prior experience in cultural mediation projects.
  • Incomplete applications are not considered.

Eligible expenses

  • Professional fees for artistic creation and animation (covering four workshops of two hours each).
  • Administrative costs directly related to the project.

  • Quality of the artistic approach and relevance of the proposed project.
  • Feasibility of the project.
  • Original and innovative dimension of the proposal in relation to the program objectives.

  • Confirm your status as a professional artist
  • Ensure you have experience in visual arts using sustainable, natural, or recycled materials
  • Check that you have completed at least one cultural mediation project
  • Make sure you are available between June and September 2025 to conduct four workshops

Prepare application documents

  • Prepare a CV (maximum 3 pages) in PDF format
  • Write a presentation of your artistic approach (about 250 words) in PDF
  • Draft a project description with engagement methods (about 500 words) in PDF
  • Compile a visual portfolio of recent works (up to 15 digital images and/or a video, max 5 minutes)

  • Write "Les ruelles vertes de Villeray - appel aux artistes" in the email subject line
  • Ensure your application is complete; incomplete applications will be rejected
  • Submit before the April 25, 2025 deadline

Await selection results

  • Wait for a response from the selection committee
  • The selected candidate will be announced mid-May 2025

Finalize agreement and access funding

  • If selected, sign a professional service agreement with the borough
  • Access a fee of $3,000 per artist, covering administrative and workshop fees
  • Receive support from professionals at Maison de la culture and Ville en vert

Additional information

  • All written application documents must be submitted in PDF format; incomplete applications will be rejected.
  • Each group of workshop participants will consist of approximately twenty people of various ages.
  • The project is part of the collaborative "Racine" initiative within the Maisons de la culture network.
