Overview

Calgary Learns Program Grants provide up to an unspecified maximum funding amount to support local, part-time adult foundational learning initiatives. Eligible activities focus on adult literacy, English language learning, numeracy, basic digital skills, and skills for learning, with a secondary priority on community capacity building.

  • The program must deliver literacy and learning content tailored to foundational needs of adult learners.
  • The initiative must operate within Calgary city limits.

Selection criteria

How to apply

Step 1: Confirm application pathway
  • If you are a currently funded program, wait for your application to be emailed to you.
  • If you are a new organization or a currently funded organization proposing a new program, request a connection prior to receiving the application package.
Step 2: Pre-application conversation
  • Complete a phone conversation with the Grant Liaison as part of the pre-application connection process (for new organizations or new programs).
Step 3: Receive application package
  • Receive the Program Grant Application Package by email from the Grant Liaison.
Step 4: Submit by the applicable deadline
  • Submit your completed application by January 15, 2026 (General Stream) or February 12, 2026 (Indigenous Stream), as applicable.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed through the Program Grants process, with an Indigenous-specific process guided by Elders and Indigenous community leaders for the Indigenous stream.
  • For the Indigenous stream, proposals that move forward after the application stage are presented orally to the Indigenous Review team.
  • Applicants can expect an application turnaround in late spring.

  • An Indigenous Program Grant Stream is available for programs designed for and serving Indigenous learners.
  • Proposals advancing in the Indigenous stream also include an oral presentation to the Indigenous Review team.
  • The Indigenous stream granting process follows recommendations from Elders and Indigenous community leaders.
  • Funding decisions are communicated in late spring.
