Who is eligible?

• Individual artists
• Arts and cultural collectives
• Incorporated not-for-profit arts and culture organizations
• Charitable arts and culture organizations
• Multicultural groups

Who is not eligible

• Churches and religious institutions
• City of Burlington employees
• Schools and other educational or training institutions
• For-profit ventures and for-profit partners
• Applicants that already received City funding this calendar year

Eligible expenses

• Project costs directly related to the approved arts or cultural activity
• Professional artist fees
• Venue and insurance costs for the project

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Capital expenses, including equipment, fixtures, land, facilities, infrastructure, construction, renovation, and major purchases
• Operating or administration costs
• Expenses incurred before written grant approval
• Alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and gambling-related costs
• Retroactive funding for events or projects already completed
• Public art projects through the public art program

Eligible geographic areas

• City of Burlington

• Applications are reviewed against the program criteria and assessment standards.
• A peer assessment jury reviews the artistic merit portion of applications.
• Funding decisions are made by the City and are final.
• If approved, the applicant must sign an agreement before payment is issued.
• Applicants must submit a final report to receive the remaining funding and remain eligible for future support.

• Funding is intended for not-for-profit activities.
• Applicants may apply for support for one project per year.
• Final project report is required for re-applicants.
• Funding decisions are final and based on City discretion.
