Who is eligible?
- Principal Investigators affiliated with a Canadian academic institution as faculty members or with Canadian Blood Services.
Who is not eligible
- Principal Investigators or application team members, including trainees, who are currently affiliated with, or in receipt of funding or in-kind support from, one or more institutions on the Government of Canada’s Named Research Organizations list.
Eligible expenses
- Salary and benefits for research staff, such as research assistants or technicians.
- Stipends and benefits for research trainees, such as post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and summer students.
- Contracted services on a fee-for-service basis, including statistical support, consultant fees, and service fees.
- Small items of equipment, including electronic communication, computer, or audiovisual devices.
- Expendable materials and supplies, experimental animals, collaborative and networking activities, and knowledge dissemination activities, including publication costs.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Salary support for investigators.
- Equipment maintenance or service contracts.
- Indirect costs, including institutional overhead.
Selection criteria
- Relevance: 40%.
- Merit/Feasibility: 60%.
- Whether the project addresses the objective and identified priorities, the significance of the issue, and the anticipated impact of the deliverables.
- Whether the project includes a defined knowledge translation strategy to accelerate uptake of the study findings or existing knowledge.
- Whether the proposal is well-conceived and justified, with aligned activities, milestones and deliverables, an adequate budget, a realistic two-year plan, suitable team skills, and consideration of sex and gender-based analysis.
How to apply
- Complete the Blood Efficiency Accelerator Program Application Form and prepare the supporting documents according to the instructions in the Application Form.
- Submit the Application Package by email to centreforinnovation@blood.ca on or before the competition deadline.
- Obtain confirmation that Canadian Blood Services has received the Application Package, as it will acknowledge receipt by email.
Processing and Agreement
- Canadian Blood Services will acknowledge receipt of the Application Package by email, and the Principal Investigator must obtain confirmation that it was received.
- Canadian Blood Services will convene a peer review committee to review applications and make funding recommendations.
- Funding decisions are subject to final approval by Canadian Blood Services' senior management responsible for the competitive funding programs.
- Principal Investigators will be informed of competition outcomes within five months of the submission deadline, successful applications will be posted on the Canadian Blood Services website, and a Progress Report and Financial Report are due at the end of each fiscal year and within 1 month of the grant's end date.
- Successful Principal Investigators will receive an Acceptance of Funding form, and the Awardee will be sent an Agreement requiring institutional approval to facilitate the transfer of funds.
