Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Individuals
- Collaborations of two or more artists sharing creative control of a project, with the application submitted under the name of one of the artists
- Independent visual and media arts critics and curators applying to further their practice independently from art organizations or institutions
Who is not eligible
- Projects that are solely Media Arts (moving images, sound, audio, new media, and digital arts) are not the priority of this program
Eligible expenses
- Subsistence costs of up to $750 per week, prorated for part-time weeks
- Costs of materials or supplies directly related to the project
- Rental of equipment or space when directly related to the project
- Fees paid to other professionals to help complete the project
- Travel expenses directly related to completing the project
- Accessibility costs related to the project that are not eligible for the Access Support program
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Project phases or activities that begin before the application closing date
- Projects that focus solely on single channel moving images (film, video, animation) from established media artists who are eligible for the BC Arts Council’s Individual Arts Grants: Media Artists
- Instructional, sponsored, or commissioned works
- Projects or activities already funded through other BC Arts Council grant programs
- Capital expenses, equipment purchases over $2,500, promotion and marketing expenses not directly related to the project activities, touring or circulation expenses, feasibility studies, start-up costs, seed money, project or budget deficits, surpluses, or contingency funds

- Artistic contribution and significance, weighted at 40%
- Impact on the applicant and community, weighted at 40%
- Feasibility, weighted at 20%
- Funding priority may be given to applicants considered part of a designated priority group
How to apply
- Register and create a profile in the online grant management system.
- Submit the application through the Grant Management System.
Processing and Agreement
- The BC Arts Council reviews each application for eligibility before forwarding eligible applications to independent assessment panels.
- Assessors read and score the applications using the assessment criteria, then rank the applications.
- Grants are awarded based on this ranking.
- The BC Arts Council sends an email to each applicant with the peer assessment panel’s decision approximately 16 weeks after the application closing date.
- Grant recipients must submit a final report of the completed project through the online system within 30 days of the Project End Date stated in the application.
Additional information
- Applications are submitted through the Grant Management System.
- New applicants must register and create a profile in the online system by Tuesday, December 2 to access grant applications for this program.
- Once registered in the system, grant applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
- New registration requests received within five days of a grant deadline will not be processed until after the application deadline has passed.

Applicants must be established visual or craft artists or independent critics or curators.
Applicants must be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada and B.C. residents for at least 12 continuous months immediately prior to the application closing date.
Applicants must have final creative control over the proposed project.
