Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Corporations, cooperatives, individuals and/or partnerships active in agriculture in the Peace region, including new agricultural industry entrants and young agricultural operators.
  • Registered non-profit agricultural organizations in the Peace region.
  • Peace region industry associations, agencies, boards and councils.
  • Educational institutions undertaking research directly related to the Peace region.

  • Local governments
  • Provincial and Federal Government
  • Political organizations
  • Third party fundraisers
  • Consultants

Eligible expenses

  • Capital expenditures
  • Contractor fees
  • Rental of tools and equipment for construction work
  • Wages for direct project labour, excluding the owner
  • PST

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • GST
  • Costs incurred, including work started and/or deposits paid, prior to approval or prior to signing agreement, depending on the stream
  • Operational costs and administrative staff wages

Selection criteria

  • Projects are reviewed by the Board for final funding approval.
  • For the Impact and Opportunities Initiative, preference is given to projects with direct applicant contribution and incremental funding from local government, First Nations, the provincial government, federal government, the private sector and other non-government sources.
  • For the Impact and Opportunities Initiative, projects are assessed on criteria including regional impact, scale, sustainability, and clear agricultural and economic development implications.

How to apply

  • Select the program you want to apply to from the Active Programs menu.
  • Complete the application form with the required project and funding information.
  • Upload the required attachments and any supporting documents.
  • Submit completed application forms and supplementary materials electronically through the Online Application System or by email where allowed.

Processing and Agreement

  • Northern Development reviews applications for completeness, eligibility and fund availability.
  • Applications that meet eligibility requirements are forwarded to the BC Hydro Agricultural Compensation Fund board for final review and funding approval decision.
  • Successful applicants receive an approval letter and instructions to contact Northern Development staff to enter into a contribution agreement.
  • Once the agreement is signed, applicants may request advance funding under the conditions stated for each stream.
  • Reporting and actual project expense templates must be completed for claims and final reporting.
