  • Valve supply, installation, permit, and related taxable costs shown on the contractor invoice.

  • Applications for non-residential properties or business entities.
  • Valves connected to the storm lateral instead of the sanitary lateral.
  • Multi-unit dwellings or basement apartments sharing a sewer lateral.
  • Work completed without the required permit or inspection approval.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Get a municipal building permit
    • Apply for the backwater valve permit with your local municipality before installation.
  • Step 2: Complete the installation and inspection
    • Have a licensed contractor install the valve.
    • Obtain municipal inspection approval after installation.
  • Step 3: Submit the rebate application
    • Complete the rebate form and gather the required supporting documents.
    • Send the application by email, scan and email, or mail it to Peel Region.
  • Step 4: Wait for processing
    • Your application will be reviewed and processed after receipt.

  • Application is reviewed and processed within 5 business days of receipt.
  • Approved applications receive a cheque by mail within 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Applications that do not meet requirements may be denied.
