Overview

Funding of up to $10,000 supports teams in Calgary to start or expand community projects that improve quality of life. Activities must align with program themes and can be selected from a ChangeX portfolio or submitted as an existing project.

  • Starting a new community project selected from the ChangeX portfolio of available ideas.
  • Expanding an existing community project that meets program criteria.
  • Community initiatives aligned with STEM/STEAM education.
  • Community initiatives aligned with environmental stewardship and sustainability.
  • Community initiatives aligned with inclusion, diversity and equity (including Truth and Reconciliation (Indigenous)), homelessness and food insecurity, or health and well-being.
Examples of admissible projects:

Expand community fridges with safe storage, signage, and restock support

Deliver family makerspace nights with robotics kits and facilitator support

Documents Needed

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be based in Calgary or surrounding areas.
  • The applicant must be an existing group or an individual who forms a team.
  • The project must aim to improve quality of life for communities.
  • The project must address at least one program theme (STEM/STEAM education, environmental stewardship and sustainability, inclusion/diversity/equity with emphasis on Truth and Reconciliation (Indigenous), homelessness and food insecurity, or health and well-being).
  • The applicant must complete a 30 Day Challenge on the ChangeX website to demonstrate commitment and ability to start or expand the project.

  • Existing community groups based in Calgary or surrounding areas
  • Individuals based in Calgary or surrounding areas (once they form a team)
  • Registered charities in Canada (required for requests over $6,000)

Selection criteria

How to apply

  • Step 1: Choose a project approach
    • Select a project idea from the ChangeX portfolio based on community needs, or submit an existing community project that meets the criteria.
  • Step 2: Complete the ChangeX challenge
    • Complete the 30 Day Challenge on the ChangeX website to demonstrate commitment and ability to start or expand the project.
  • Step 3: Receive initial support
    • After successfully completing the challenge, receive funding, information guides, and support from ChangeX to implement the project.
  • Step 4: Demonstrate impact for additional installment
    • Show the impact the project is having in the community to access a further installment to help maintain the project.

Processing and Agreement

  • ChangeX assesses the applicant’s commitment and ability through completion of a 30 Day Challenge on the platform.
  • After the challenge is successfully completed, funding and support materials may be provided to help start or expand the project.
  • An additional funding installment may be provided after the project’s community impact is demonstrated.

Additional information

  • Projects should be managed in an inclusive and welcoming manner.
  • Any events organized as part of the project should comply with relevant public health guidance.
  • Support includes information guides and other support to help deliver the project.
  • Applicants may receive a further funding installment after demonstrating community impact.
