Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Non-profit organizations whose primary purpose is presentation, promotion, or education with respect to the visual, performing, literary, media, or material arts in Fredericton
  • Non-profit organizations whose primary purpose is presentation, promotion, or education with respect to Fredericton’s history or heritage
  • Non-profit organizations whose primary purpose is presentation, promotion, or education with respect to a specific culture or cultures

Who is not eligible

  • For-profit organizations
  • Activities held in commercial premises
  • Organizations seeking support for operating or administrative costs unrelated to the project

Eligible expenses

  • Purchase or repair of specialized equipment or infrastructure to become a community asset shared among three or more eligible organizations

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Sales, exhibitions, or events held in commercial premises
  • Operating, sustaining, or administrative expenses not tied to the project
  • Studies, plans, strategies, conferences, or professional development
  • Travel
  • Building renovation or repair
  • Monuments, statuary, interpretative panels, and specialized equipment not used as a community asset

Selection criteria

  • Stimulate appreciation of the creative arts, culture or heritage in the community
  • Build community support, increase membership, develop wider audiences, or attract visitors
  • Contribute to artistic or cultural achievement, or heritage skills within the community
  • Meet a specific community need in terms of a program or product that is not provided by the City of Fredericton
  • Improve financial stability and self-sufficiency

How to apply

  • Step 1: Complete the application form
    • Fill in the organization and project details.
    • Prepare any supporting information requested in the form.
  • Step 2: Submit the application
    • Email the application to culture@fredericton.ca.
    • Mail it to the City of Fredericton, Recreation, Culture & Community Development, 397 Queen Street, Fredericton, NB E3B 1B5.
    • Deliver it in person to the Service Centre at City Hall, 397 Queen Street.
  • Step 3: Wait for review
    • Applications are assessed by the program jury after submission.

Processing and Agreement

  • A jury of peers will review all applications and determine recipients and grant awards.
  • Organizations that received a grant from this program in the past must have submitted a written report on their completed project to be considered for future grants.
  • For an arts, culture or heritage series extending into the current grant year, organizations must submit a short written progress report.

Additional information

  • Applicants may apply for multiple City of Fredericton grants if they meet each program’s requirements.
  • Past recipients must have submitted the required final report to be considered for future funding.
  • For unforeseen eligible activities, support up to $500 may be available at the jury chair’s discretion.
