Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Incorporated for-profit companies and non-profit community-based organizations.
- Professional artists who are Saskatchewan residents, working in partnership with a community organization.
Who is not eligible
- Organizations receiving annual or multi-year funding from SK Arts, SaskCulture Inc., Sask Lotteries, Creative Saskatchewan, or creative industries associations supported by Creative Saskatchewan, unless the proposed project expands inclusion, diversity, and equity access within existing programs and/or explores new methods of presenting.
- Organizations that have a grant open in any of the Artists in Communities or Artists in Schools streams of funding at the application closing date.
Eligible expenses
- Project costs incurred during the project term to complete the activities outlined
- Artist fees
- Elders or Knowledge Keepers fees, including honoring gifts
- Employer and employee contributions such as Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance and Workers’ Compensation, if required
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Capital purchases, including basic equipment, kilns, computers and musical instruments
- Fundraising activities, awards, sponsorships and re-granting activities
- Activities that contravene provincial or federal law
- Activities that use or present Indigenous cultural material, traditional knowledge or stories without permission from the community and involvement of either an Elder or Knowledge Keeper
- Projects that do not compensate artists, Elders or Knowledge Keepers for their work

Selection criteria
- Project Quality: creative, innovative, high-quality artistic programming that is relevant and uniquely designed to address community needs and challenges; artist recognition as a professional; respectful inclusion of Indigenous Knowledge Keepers and Elders when applicable.
- Project Impact: expands participants’ views of arts processes, racial and ethnic backgrounds, culture and disability perspectives; increases access; engages the community meaningfully; supports sustained impact.
- Achievability: the ideas, objectives, roles and responsibilities of all identified partners are reflected in the application, and the project plan and budget are appropriate for the project term.
How to apply
- Contact a Program Consultant before preparing an application, especially if you are a first-time applicant.
- Both Applicant partners must be registered in the online application portal.
- Start the application at least one month before the closing date.
- Submit the application online through https://saskarts.smartsimple.ca before the closing date.
Processing and Agreement
- An independent panel of reviewers assesses applications through a competitive peer review process.
- Applicants are typically informed of grant decisions by e-mail no later than 90 days after the application closing date.
- Both Applicant Partners must sign and submit the Request for Grant Payment Form and provide an agreement signed by both parties to receive funding.
- A signed contract between the artist(s) and the community partner is required before funds will be released.
- Grant recipients must submit a final report no later than 60 days after the project end date.
Additional information
- Communities may be defined by geographic boundaries or by social or demographic factors.
- Applications may be submitted in English or French.
- French-language applications are translated into English before review, and at least one reviewer will be able to read the application in its first language.
